School Learning Council

At the beginning of the year, every Year 6 child is given the opportunity to stand for the position of head boy/girl and prefects. They prepare speeches and present these to the school during a whole school assembly. Posters are then made by the candidates and displayed in the hall, as part of their campaign, in the run up to the elections. Elections take place, where every pupil and staff member have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates. The children with the highest votes secure the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl and are supported in their roles by two elected deputies and twelve prefects.

As part of their role, the children in these positions of responsibility form the basis of our school council. They are role models for the school and help to make important decisions, such as, how to raise money for Comic Relief or best use of school funds.

Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, this year’s team of heads and prefects have not been able to fulfil the wider range of their duties such as showing visitors around the school, joining perspective parent tours and completing behaviour observations in the classrooms. The team must be commended, however, for the enthusiasm they have continued to show throughout such a challenging year.
